Collection: May Wilson Nampijinpa

May Wilson Nampijinpa started painting at the new womans centre in late 1990s She was born at Neutral Junction Station near Barrow Creek. She has two daughters. She was a cleaner at the women’s centre and in her spare time she started painting. Before that in the 1980’s she worked at the council looking after the park, Lovegrove in the centre of the community. May moved here to Ali Curung with her parents from the Neutral Junction Station, her father’s country Jaramarra which is west of Warrego mine, her mother’s country is Warlukurlangu in Kaitiji country west of Stirling Station. Her mother is Kaitiji, her father is Walpiri. Her mother is Napanangka and her mother is Jangala. As a child May used to go hunting and camping out with her family and her stories are about her growing up in the bush. May stiill loves to go out bush to collect bush tucker and bush medicine. May speaks Kaitiji, Walpiri and Alywarra. May Wilson is one of our senior artists. She is also our most collective proving popular with international and national buyers. Her complex style has both depth and string design elements as she tells her dreaming.
