Maria was born in Warrabri (Ali Curung) in 1977. Maria grew up and went to school in Ali Curung and then went on to Yirarra College in Alice Springs when she was 15 years. Maria started to paint in 2007 and paints landscapes of her mother's country and her grandmother's country. (Hatches Creek). Maria is a landscape artist whose paintings are inspired by visits to her mother's country. She also paints her husbands dreaming. "This painting is about the hill country and sand hills of my Mother's country (Antarranginyi) west of Ampilatawaja. The hills and sand dunes are covered in flowers and sometimes we take the kids for a country visit and tell them about the dreamtime and that someday they might look after the country. This is where we go hunting for bush tucker and gathering bush medicines for the people. We return to this place especially after rain to collect our medicine. At Christmas time our families go there for ceremony and for swimming.
