Salon Des Refusés

2025

August 6th - August 18th, 2025
Outstation Gallery
Darwin

"Now in its 13th year, this standout event is returning to the Darwin Waterfront to celebrate the talent of First Nations artists from across the country, whose work was submitted, but not selected into the NATISAAs.

This year’s SALON is presented in two parts: first, view a curated selection of works through the windows of the Waterfront Gallery. Then, enjoy a short walk to the nearby Pop-Up Gallery at E4A (beside Oyster Bar) to experience the second part of this compelling exhibition." - Outstation Gallery

Cross Traffic: Art from Ali Curung, Ampilatwatja, Epenarra, Tennant Creek & Utopia

June 14th - August 3rd, 2025
Delmar Gallery
Eora/Sydney

"Via arterial routes and highways, from the Barkly Tablelands to Sandover, art from Ali Curung, Ampilatwatja, Epenarra, Tennant Creek and Utopia is marked by striking experimentation. Independent artists from outstations and community hubs diverge from established styles of Western Desert art – syncretic expression being a hallmark.

This exhibition presents an intersection of histories – some well-known in local memory, and others recognised by a niche of Aboriginal art scholars and collectors. Exhibited alongside those from a new wave of multi-generational artists, these paintings register a freedom of expression that has become a signature of the region." - Levi McLean, except from the exhibition catalogue.

In the Shadow of the Telegraph Line - Marcus 'Double O' Camphoo Kemarre & Joseph Williams Jungarayi at Melbourne Art Fair

July 27th - September 7th, 2025
Melbourne Art Fair
Naarm/Melbourne

Presented by 8 Hele and cbOne

"What is shared by Yugi and Double O is their ability to imbue such spirit into their pictures that they are completely engulfing. Yugi’s hazy bush doctors peer out from their astral backdrop, surrounding the viewer in a haunting exchange. The expressive potential of Double O’s brash brushstroke pulsates through his colour fields, wrapping the viewer up in an intimate exchange. Their reunion at Melbourne Art Fair comes four months after the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art’s display of Tennant Creek Brio: Juparnta Ngattu Minjinypa Iconocrisis, the group’s first major survey exhibition. Their solo offerings are testament to the rebellious spirit and artistic breadth of the Brio, piercingly addressing colonial histories, intergenerational trauma and the urgent need for truth-telling, while championing material and modal experimentation and cross-cultural collaboration." - Harry Price, excerpt from the exhibition catalogue.
